OCIN-200 Tablet contains Ofloxacin 200 mg, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections. It works by killing or stopping the growth of bacteria responsible for infections affecting the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, soft tissues, and gastrointestinal system. It is effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
This tablet should only be used when prescribed by a healthcare professional and is not effective against viral infections like cold or flu.
Mechanism of action.
Ofloxacin is the active ingredient in the OCIN, the active ingredient in OCIN-200, acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication and repair. By blocking these enzymes:
- Bacterial DNA cannot replicate
- Protein synthesis is halted
- Bacterial cells fail to divide and eventually die
Indications
OCIN-200 Tablet is prescribed and indicated to be used for the treatment of:
- Respiratory tract infections such as Bronchitis, pneumonia, and COPD-related infections.
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs) such as cystitis, Pyelonephritis, and Urethritis.
- Gastrointestinal & abdominal infections such as diarrhoea, typhoid fever, and travellers’ diarrhoea.
- Skin & soft tissue infections such as abscesses, Wound infections cellulitis.
- Sexually transmitted infections such as Gonorrhea, chlamydia
- Prostatitis
Dosage & Administration
The dosage depends on the severity of the infection, age, kidney function, and the patient’s medical history.
For adults and elder, the recommended dosage are:
- 200 mg once or twice daily
- Taken at evenly spaced intervals
- Administration of Bone and Joint Infections
Guidelines:
- Take with or without food
- Swallow whole with a full glass of water
- Do not crush or break the tablet
- Maintain proper hydration
Important Note:
Complete the full course even if symptoms improve. Stopping early may cause the infection to return or lead to antibiotic resistance.
